EBS的老師們在教學時，都會糾正學生的英文句子並記錄下來。有些句子有明顯的錯誤，但有些句子就是” 怪怪的”，雖然沒有在文法上的錯誤，但是英文為母語的人士就是不會這樣用。我們請老師們整理出在教學中，因為用中文邏輯表達英文所造成的字詞錯誤。大家看看以下句子，是否能找出錯誤在那兒呢？

1. 每次去看電影的時候，我都會買爆米花。

Every time when I go to the movies, I buy popcorn.

2. 我爸爸很容易生氣。

My father is easy to get angry.

3. 我 5年前學會開車

I learned how to drive 5 years before.

4. 他們兩人都不會說英文

Both of them don’t speak English.

5.  首先，我要討論台灣中等教育的問題。

At first, I would like to discuss the problem of secondary education in Taiwan.

例句解說:

1. Every time I go to the movies, I buy popcorn. 

Every time本身就是連接詞片語，使得when的功能重複，所以會把 when 省略讓句子更精簡。

相同的用法還有:

** any time / each time (that)　每次…… ( = whenever)

 You can call me any time you want someone to talk to.

 ** the last / next time (that)　當上 / 下一次……的時候

The next time you come, we must spend more time together.

2. It’s easy for my father to get angry.

這句很容易掉入中翻英的陷阱。[ 某人很容易……的 ] 英文說法是:   It’s easy ( for someone ) to….   ;

或者也可以說: My father gets angry easily.

3. I learned how to drive 5 years ago.

雖然 before , ago的中文都是 [ 在……以前 ] 的意思，但是在使用上還是有不一樣的地方。

ago為“從現在算起…之前”，前面要加明確的時間，時態為過去式。

before前面可以不加時間，含糊地表示“以前”，時態為過去式或現在完成式；

before前面若加時間，意為“從過去那時算起…之前”，時態為過去完成式，

例句:

** 你們兩人以前見過面嗎？

Have you two met before ?  

** 他說他兩天前從美國回來。

He says that he came back from America two days ago.

** 他(那時)說他兩天前從美國回來。

He said that he had come back from America two days before.

4. Neither of them speaks English.

在英文如果要說 [ 兩者都不 ] 會用 Neither,  而不會用 both… not。

所以 [ 總是不會 ] 也不會用 always … not , 而會用 never 喔!

5. First ( Firstly ) , I would like to discuss the problem of secondary education in Taiwan.

First / Firstly   / At first 雖然都有首先、開始的意思，不過  at first  不用在說明一個連續事項的開頭 ，而是用在說明某段時間一開始的時候，

可翻譯為 [ 起初, 當初 ] 。

 例句:

At first I thought he was shy , but then I discovered he was just not interested in other people .  

起初我還以為他很害羞， 後來我才發覺他是不愛理人。

雖然只是簡單的五個例句，但是相信能夠讓大家對英文的用法有更深刻的體會。
