Fish and chips is a take-away food that consists of battered fish,
commonly cod or haddock, and deep-fried chips, sometimes accompanied by mushy peas.
The dish originated in the United Kingdom in the 19th century.

Fish and Chips

Fish and chips traditionally wrapped in white paper and newspaper.

The long-standing Roman Catholic tradition of not eating meat on Fridays
- especially during Lent - and of substituting fish for other types of meat
on that day - continues to influence habits in societies.
